Best Hospital Bag Checklist

Having a baby can be stressful enough without having to worry if you packed every item that you might need during your brief and overwhelming stay at the hospital. The professionals recommend that you have your bags packed and ready in your car by your 35th week. I learned this lesson the hard way when I gave birth to my twins at 36 weeks and had to rummage around last minute for all my items. If you are a procrastinator or a planner, you will find the below list extremely helpful when the time comes for you to race off to meet your adorable newborn.

This list has evolved over the years with input from experienced parents:

Photo ID
Pre-admission Forms
(2)Nightgowns (pant sets not recommended)
Nursing Bra/Pads
Nursing Cover
Nursing Pillow (Boppy)
Sanitary Pads (big ones- as in the biggest ones you can buy)
Underwear (unless you find the hospital ones stylish)
Hair Dryer
Make Up (or not…)
Shower Shoes
Face Wash/Moisturizer
Lip Balm
Lifesavers (great for getting the epidural taste out during labor)
Hair Ties/Headbands
Going Home Outfit – Cotton Maternity Dress and comfy shoes
Baby’s Going Home Outfit
Baby’s Hats/Mittens
Baby’s 1st Photo Outfit (some hospitals take professional pics of your new baby)
Receiving Blanket
Baby Bottle (you won’t want baby to use hospital provided one if at all possible)
Extra Bags for taking home hospital goodies
iPad/iPad charger
Camera/Camera charger
Towels (unless you like drying off with sand paper)
